COVID-19 PEP RCT: Post-exposure Prophylaxis or Preemptive Therapy for SARS-Coronavirus-2: A Pragmatic Approach

COVID-19 Research Area(s): Vaccines & Treatments

We will be comparing the drug hydroxychloroquine to placebo to determine if it is effective in preventing the onset or progression of COVID-19 disease. Hydroxychloroquine is approved by Health Canada for the treatment of diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and acute attacks of malaria. There is some evidence that hydroxychloroquine may be helpful to reduce the symptoms of COVID-19, but we don't really know at this time. An urgent clinical trial is needed so we know if this drug should be used routinely or not.
