AbCellera COVID-19 study; Countermeasures for COVID-19 Pandemic

COVID-19 Research Area(s): Diagnostics, Genomics & Transmission Dynamics

This project aims to identify antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, with the potential for use as diagnostic, prophylactic or therapeutic tools. To perform this work, we will obtain blood samples from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. These samples contain the immune cells we study. We will isolate and analyze the cells that naturally produce antibodies (B cells), recover the sequences encoding those antibodies using molecular biology techniques, assess the function of those antibodies, and their suitability for synthetic, large-scale manufacturing.  We will also sequence the viral genome of the SARS-CoV-2 virus from study participants, when appropriate samples are available, to track the emergence of escape mutations, and the evolution of the virus.
