Angiotensin and SARS-CoV2 virus entry
COVID-19 Research Area(s): Vaccines & Treatments
ACE2 is the main SARS-CoV2 receptor, it is responsible for virus entry into human tissues, particularly in the lung. However, ACE2 is also a critical enzyme in the regulation of blood pressure. Hence, we are testing the hypothesis that certain clinically-approved and experimental blood pressure medications can modulate and hopefully decrease virus uptake into cells while protecting the lungs against virus-induced injury.
