Building Resilient Rural Communities: Understanding the Mental Health Impacts of Climate Change Events and COVID-19

COVID-19 Research Area(s): Mental Health & Wellbeing

Climate change climate change events (CCEs) and COVID-19 have a significant impact on mental health (MH). These events are experienced differently by rural/remote communities. The goal is to foster community resilience through a deeper understanding of the MH impacts of CCEs and COVID-19. We will collect data in multiple ways (e.g., surveys, community consultations, stories, photos) in three rural communities in BC. Deliberative dialogues will be completed with key stakeholders in each community to co-create solutions to foster resilience. Results will contribute to the development of a community-based action plan for MH supports related to CCEs and COVID-19 in rural communities.
