Child Movement and Outdoor Play: Exploring parental perceptions of of child and youth movement behaviors

COVID-19 Research Area(s): Epidemiology & Public Health, Mental Health & Wellbeing

Healthy development in children requires adequate healthy movement behaviours (i.e., physical activity, sleep, limited sedentary time). There are challenges for children to meet these guidelines during normal times, and opportunities to meet guidelines may be further impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic. By conducting interviews to explore parental experiences of adapting to COVID-19 related restrictions and the movement behaviours of their child(ren), and by comparing and contrasting parental experiences of varying COVID-19 related restrictions, we can inform recommendations to mitigate unintended, collateral consequences of current and future public health restrictions.
