Parental perceptions of COVID-19 related impacts to youth physical activity and the effects of the pandemic

COVID-19 Research Area(s): Epidemiology & Public Health, Mental Health & Wellbeing

The benefits of sufficient physical activity to the healthy development of school-aged children are well understood. As COVID-19 related public health restrictions continue to redefine the daily lives of children and youth, it is critical that barriers and facilitators of physical activity are well understood in the context of a pandemic. Following the reopening of youth recreation programs, interviews with participating families will be conducted to study parental perceptions of the impact of COVID-19 on the child(ren)'s physical activity habits as well as their perceptions of the effectiveness of redesigned physical activity programs.
