Rehabilitation Service Capacity for COVID19 Survivors

COVID-19 Research Area(s): Healthcare Delivery & Policy

COVID-19 can cause serious ongoing health effects, including shortness of breath, fatigue, and muscle weakness. These may be related to the disease itself, or can occur due to inactivity while in hospital. Many COVID-19 patients will need rehabilitation services, but does British Columbia have the rehabilitation services capacity to meet their needs? Understanding the capacity of rehabilitation for COVID-19 is important as many rehabilitation programs are already at full capacity, and not all programs will have the expertise or necessary resources to care for these patients. The purpose of this project is to characterize the capacity of BC to provide rehabilitation services to COVID-19 survivors, in order to support health care planning and facilitate best practices.
