Tracking COVID-19 to inform interventions and help make schools safer

COVID-19 Research Area(s): Epidemiology & Public Health, Healthcare Delivery & Policy

Across Canada, the majority of schools re-opened in late August / early September. Exceptional measures have been put in place to mitigate the risks of COVID-19. However, these measures, and the realities of living through a pandemic has placed enormous stress on the school community. This study will determine how many educators were previously exposed to a COVID-19 infection without their knowledge, estimate the extent of unrecognized viral transmission within schools and examine the impact of COVID-19 on student absenteeism and educators' psychological well-being. Ultimately, we hope that this study will inform strategies to help make schools safer.
