Clinical characteristics and patient outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 positive patients
COVID-19 Research Area(s): Diagnostics, Genomics & Transmission Dynamics, Healthcare Delivery & Policy
An observational study that combines the goals and objectives of three different treatment groups at Providence Health - Infectious Disease, Emergency Medicine, and General Internal Medicine in a collaborative effort to answer research questions. We seek to evaluate patient and clinical characteristics including demographics, pre-existing comorbidities, home medication use, and presenting symptoms, as well as their relation to clinical course and outcomes of all SARS-CoV-2 positive patients tested at or admitted to St. Paul's Hospital (SPH) and Mount Saint Joseph Hospital (MSJ) in Vancouver, BC. We further aim to iteratively use this data from a quality assurance perspective to inform clinical care for SARS-CoV-2 patients at Providence Health, while concurrently answering research questions related to SARS-CoV-2. In order to accomplish these objectives, we plan to create a research registry that will include an extensive list of variables (listed in the study protocol) of all SARS-CoV-2 positive patients who were tested at or admitted to either SPH or MSJ.
